Insofar as personal data is stored and used for the proper implementation of our service offerings and for statistical purposes, this is done according to the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) and the German Telemedia Act (TMG).
Below, we present to what extent and for what purposes user data is recorded, stored and used on the Symrise website.
Server Log Files
When you visit our website, we automatically process in our systems the information that your browser transmits to us for security and technical reasons.
Essentially, the website provider automatically records and stores the information that your browser automatically transmits to us in server log files.
This information is:
- Browser type and browser version
- The operating system used
- The referrer URL (the website that has referred to our website)
- Host name and full IP address of the accessing computers
- Date and time of the server request
- The URL (website) viewed on our systems
This data is not combined with other data sources and we do not conduct any personalized statistical analysis based on this data. The basis of the data processing is Article 6(1) (b) of the GDPR, which permits the processing of data in order to perform a contract or pre-contractual measures.
If we need data in order to identify you personally (personal data) or contact you, you will always be explicitly asked. The data enables the execution of a requested transaction. This can involve, for example, the subscription to a newsletter or a company magazine.
Use and Sharing of Your Personal Data
Personal data that you enter on the Symrise website or communicate to us in another manner is recorded, processed and stored to enable us to correspond with you and for the purposes for which you have made the information available to us. It is not shared without your consent unless the legal data protection regulations expressly provide otherwise.
If needed, we also pass the information along to companies affiliated to Symrise, service providers or other third parties. This may be necessary in order to render a requested service or transaction, such as order processing, event announcements, or for purposes of customer service. When sharing personal data with third parties, we limit ourselves to information that is necessary to perform our respective services. The respective third-party provider may use this personal data exclusively to perform the requested service or to conduct the required transaction that occurs on our behalf. In this connection, the service provider is committed by us in writing to comply with data protection laws, usually through agreement for data processing.
We will never pass along, sell or otherwise provide the personal data that we record from you to third parties for external marketing purposes.
You can review, modify or withdraw your consent to the use of your stored data at any time by sending an email to Symrise AG at Data.protection(at)symrise.com. If you withdraw your consent to the use of your data, we can unfortunately no longer provide services for which we require your personal data.
Data transmitted by contact form, including your contact data, is stored exclusively in order to process your specific request. This data is not shared without your consent.
The data entered into the contact form is processed in order to handle your request (Article 6(1) (b) GDPR). It is possible to withdraw the consent you have already given at any time. An informal notification by email to Data.protection(at)symrise.com is sufficient to withdraw your consent. The legality of the data processing operations prior to withdrawal is unaffected by such withdrawal.
The data transmitted via the contact form remains with us until you request its deletion, withdraw your consent to storage or the necessity of data storage no longer exists. Mandatory legal provisions – particularly retention periods – remain unaffected.
For the integration and presentation of video content our website uses plug-ins from Youtube.de/Youtube.com, which – represented by Google, Inc. – is operated by YouTube, LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA (“YouTube”).
When you view a page with an integrated YouTube plug-in, a connection is established with YouTube servers, displaying the plug-in on the website through a message to your browser. Therefore, we have no influence over the extent of the data that YouTube obtains with the button and will thus inform you about this according to our knowledge. When the website equipped with the plug-in is viewed, information about which of our websites you have visited will be transmitted to the YouTube server. If you are logged in at the time as a YouTube member, YouTube assigns this information to your respective personal user accounts on these platforms. When using the functions of the plug-in, such as clicking the start button of a video or posting a comment, this information is assigned to your YouTube user account. You can prevent this only by logging out of YouTube before using the plug-in. You may find information on the recording and use of data by the platform or plug-ins in YouTube’s privacy notice at: https://www.youtube.com.
Our website uses so-called cookies in several places. Cookies are small text files that your Web browser stores on your terminal device. Cookies help us to make our range of services more user-friendly, effective and secure.
A few of the cookies we use are so-called “session cookies.” Session cookies are automatically deleted after the end of your browser session. However, sometimes cookies with a longer storage period are used. Such cookies help us recognize you when you return to our website.
With a modern Web browser, you can monitor, restrict or block the placement of cookies. Many Web browsers can be configured in such a way that cookies are deleted automatically when the program is closed. The deactivation of cookies can result in limiting the functionality of our website.
We ourselves do not store any information in the local shared objects (LSO) area of your computer. In other words, we do not use any so-called “flash cookies.” However, other services to which we link, such as YouTube, may use this function for their own purposes, if applicable.
This website uses functions of the Google Analytics Web analytics service. The provider is Google, Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. Google Analytics similarly uses “cookies.” The information generated by the cookie regarding your use of this website is usually transmitted to a Google server in the US and stored there.
Should IP anonymization be activated on this website, however, your IP address will be truncated by Google within the member states of the European Union or in other contractual states party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area before being transmitted. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be sent to a Google server in the US and truncated there. Google will use this information on behalf of the operator of this website in order to evaluate your use of the website, to compile reports on website activities, and to render other services related to website use and internet use for the website operator. Google will not combine the IP address transmitted by your browser via Google Analytics with other Google data.
The legal basis for the use of Google Analytics is Article 6(1) (f) GDPR.
You can prevent the storage of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings in your browser; though in this case you may not be able to fully use all of the functions of this website. In addition, you can prevent the recording of the data generated by the cookie and related to your use of the website (including your IP address) by Google and the processing of this data by Google by downloading and installing the browser add-on available at the following link:
You can also prevent the recording of data by Google Analytics by clicking on the link below. An opt-out cookie is set that prevents the future recording of your data when visiting this website.
Deactivating Google Analytics
Please note that on this website Google Analytics is used with the extension “anonymizeIp” in order to ensure the anonymized recording of IP addresses (so-called IP masking). These IP addresses are processed further only in truncated form in order to rule out a direct personal reference.
Use of Google Tag Manager
This website uses Google Tag Manager, which helps to manage website tags from applications like Google Analytics through an interface. The Google Tag Manager itself (which implements and activates the tags on this page) is a cookieless domain and does not record any personal data. The tool activates other tags that record data themselves under certain circumstances. Google Tag Manager does not access this data. If a deactivation is undertaken on the domain or cookie level, it remains in place for all tracking tags that are implemented with Google Tag Manager.
Use of etracker
This website uses etracker GmbH technology (www.etracker.com) to collect and save data for marketing and optimization purposes. Anonymous usage profiles can be created from this data and cookies may be used for this purpose. It is possible to use these cookies to recognize a visitor’s browser.
The data collected by the etracker technology will not be used to determine the personal identity of a website visitor and will not be compiled with personal data relating to the person referred to by the pseudonym unless agreed to separately by the individual concerned. The collection and storage of data may be revoked at any time with respect to future services.
Use of Products and Services of wiredminds GmbH on This Website
Our website uses tracking pixel technology from wiredminds GmbH to analyze visitor behavior. Cookies and so-called pixel tags are used for this (“tracking pixel technology”). Pixel tags are small invisible characters contained on a website. By collecting and analyzing the transmitted data, Symrise can model the behavior of visitors to the Symrise websites. The representation highlights the various areas of interest shown by use of the respective Symrise websites and the geographic origin of the visitors.
The data gathered in the process is available to Symrise in processed form and is not passed along to third parties outside the Symrise Group. Similarly, this data is never used for other purposes or even resold. The data gathered in the process will not be used to determine the personal identity of a website visitor and will not be compiled with personal data relating to the person referred to by the pseudonym unless agreed to separately by the individual concerned. Insofar as IP addresses are recorded, they are immediately anonymized after recording by deleting the last number block.
If you nevertheless do not agree to the analysis of your pseudonymized visitor data, please click on the link below to opt out of the use of your data. Please consider that this is accomplished by placement of a cookie in which information is stored that blocks the recording of your pseudonymized user data. If you delete your browser cookies or use another browser during your next visit, you must click on the link again.

As a result, data that you send via this website is not readable by third parties. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the “https://” address line of your browser and the padlock icon in the browser line.
